Tributaries Programs

Tributary programs allow us to bring high quality arts integration education to students around the St. Louis area. Our two school programs include a creative dance class for early childhood and an arts integration program for pre-school and grades K-12.

Residencies bring a Dance Academy instructor to the classroom in weekly or bi weekly sessions in accordance to the partner school’s schedule. Residencies can be done through single day workshops, or in Month, Semester, or Year long residencies.

Creative Movement
Creative movement teaches Socio-Emotional skills through the lens of dance education. In these 45 minute classes, students are led through a warm up, dance choreography, structured improv, reflection, and cool down.

Creative movement is a great tool for regulation, cognitive development, and social development. Developed with child development at the core, our curriculum scaffolds socio-emotional development into imaginative play and dance.

Creative dance allows students to connect with themselves and the world around them through movement.
Arts Integration
Arts Integration  is an approach to teaching and learning through which content standards are taught equitably in and through the arts. Our Tributaries program partners with classroom teachers to create workshops and residencies that explore classroom curriculum using dance.

Each school residency is unique and tailored to the curriculum and students of the classes we partner with. Our teachers partner with the classroom teacher to create a curriculum that uses dance to introduce or deepen a curricular objective.

Arts integrated curriculums help students of all learning styles engage with a curriculum in a dynamic way. This model is proven to build creativity, problem solving, team work, and socio-emotional skills. Embodied learning is also shown to have a positive impact on focus, knowledge retention and recollection.

What content can be paired with arts integration?
Arts integration is most often seen in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), and is also used in Language, History, and Health/Physical Education classes.
Our program is backed by researched curriculums and several certifications in arts integration. I myself hold a degree in Educational Studies from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an emphasis in youth and adult development and arts integration. In addition, I am a certified practitioner of the Jacob’s Pillow School’s Curriculum in Motion, a nationally recognized arts integration methodology.

I am also trained in the Dance Education Lab Institute, a renowned dance education institute that brings New York City dance to schools across the United States. Our staff includes dance instructors who also hold masters degrees in STEM and education fields, and are certified arts integration practitioners.
